“67” — The Word of the Year

The word of the year (2025), as chosen by Dictionary.com, isn’t even a word. It’s a number! And not one you can spell with the alphabet either—it’s a numerical combo: ‘67.’

It’s pronounced “six-seven,” never “sixty-seven”.

So what does “67” mean?

In classrooms, online chats, or rowdy arenas, “67” is echoing everywhere. One group yells “6!” and the other roars back “7!”

The mysterious meme reportedly traces back to Skrilla’s 2024 track “Doot Doot (6 7),” though others say it pays homage to NBA star LaMelo Ball, who stands—how else?—a cool 6 feet 7 inches.

Honestly, for me, the meaning of “67” is still not clear! Perhaps, it would be the last time I would use it in my writing. Hopefully, Dictionary.com will select a word and not a number as the word of the year in 2026.
