TIME FOR NDP AND LIBERAL PARTY TO MERGE

Instead of facing near annihilation from the Canadian political scene, as almost happened in the last federal election, the New Democratic Party should seriously consider merging with the Liberal Party of Canada. Such a move would safeguard its membership from political isolation in the long-standing Liberal-Conservative spectrum, where the NDP has never formed government and has only occasionally played the role of lifeline to the Liberals, as seen during Justin Trudeau’s last three terms.

The idea of an NDP-Liberal merger is not new. It has surfaced several times over the decades, but neither party has ever shown the will to make it happen. Yet the case for it now is stronger than ever. For the NDP, continuing as a stand-alone party often means splitting the progressive vote, weakening its own influence while inadvertently strengthening the Conservatives. For the Liberals, a merger would help consolidate the progressive base and prevent them from drifting toward the political right in a bid to win over Conservative voters.

Such a unified front could finally create a stable and strong progressive government in Canada—one that places the interests of everyday Canadians at the forefront, rather than pandering to the wealthy and big corporations, which remain the Conservative Party’s guiding mantra. A merger would not only give progressives a clear, united voice but also prevent the cycle of short-lived Liberal minority governments propped up by NDP support.

In short, by coming together, the Liberals and the NDP could turn fragmented idealism into durable power—power that could deliver lasting progressive reforms for Canadians across the country.

  1. The global trend is towards Conservatives. NDP has tried Liberals with total frustration. It is time to try the Conservatives. Even otherwise, Premier Eby is endorsing Conservative agenda. In a recent Parliament debate Liberals were unable to tell the Parliament and the public the fiscal and budget deficits. Six months are over, no budget . Is it a financial emergency? .

  2. If we give up on socialism, if we give up on fighting US imperialism, if we give up on stopping Israel’s genocide, then the NDP should merge with the Liberals. Canada’s “natural party of power” since WWII.

I think we have to shift everything to the LEFT, not the right. Carney is definitely running to the right. And it’s not doing Canada any good. !
