SOME COOL THOUGHTS ON ANGER

Anger flows like water through a hose—rushing out with force, sometimes uncontrollable, and shaped by the pressure of our emotions, according to Laura Rees, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior, Oregon State University.

Anger is a force—whether it controls us or we control it depends on how soon we turn off the tap.

The longer we let it run, the more it builds, flooding our thoughts and reactions. Shutting off the tap depends on how quickly we regain control, cool down, and release the pressure before it spills over and makes a mess of ourselves and the environment around us.

The Gurbani mentions the word “Krodh,” which means anger. It is like falling into the river of fire. Fire is destructive; it burns whatever it touches and brings pain and suffering.

Here are some interesting quotes about anger.

Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” – Buddha.

Anybody can become angry—that is easy. But to be angry with the right person and to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way— is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.” – Aristotle.

For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
