SILENCE IS GOLDEN FOR KING CHARLES, OBAMA, AND MANY OTHERS ON TRUMP’S BARBS

King Charles, Canada’s ceremonial head, remains utterly unshaken by Donald Trump’s recurring jabs about turning Canada into the 51st state. While Canadians of all stripes react with fiery indignation—waving the maple leaf with renewed pride—the King, true to his royal demeanour, stays mum.

Why the silence?

Is it royal indifference or a case of “not my circus, not my clowns”?

Buckingham Palace offers a cryptic explanation: King Charles only speaks on matters advised by the Trudeau government. And Trudeau, perhaps following some unwritten imperial etiquette, has chosen to keep His Majesty out of it. The result? A golden silence.

But the King isn’t the only one keeping quiet. Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and a host of other influential figures have also opted for silence as Trump’s verbal fireworks continue—be it about Canada’s annexation, the Russia-Ukraine war, Greenland, the Panama Canal, Gaza, or his draconian deportation fantasies.

Perhaps they could use a timely reminder from one King (Martin Luther King Jr.) to another king (Charles) and all those who choose to stay silent when voices are needed:

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.”

“There comes a time when silence is betrayal.”

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends.”
