WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?

Carbon dioxide (CO2) often takes center stage in the climate change conversation and with good reason. While it only makes up a tiny fraction—0.041%—of our atmosphere, its impact is outsized. Human activities contribute about 32% of that already small percentage, yet CO2 plays a critical role in warming the Earth.

How does such a small concentration cause such big problems? It’s all about heat. CO2 has the unique ability to trap heat radiating from the Earth’s surface, preventing it from escaping into space. This heat-trapping effect is like putting a blanket over the planet, intensifying global warming and accelerating climate change.

So, while CO2 is only a trace gas, its ability to disrupt the delicate balance of our climate system makes it a major culprit in our warming world.
