WE HAVE CHOICES ON THE MENU OF LIFE

From surfing the tidal wave of options on Netflix to navigating the labyrinth of a Chinese restaurant menu, life seems to be a buffet of choices.

Straight, with soda, water, or simply on the rock! Should we top our pizza with pepperoni or pineapple? Pick a vacation in Paris or Peru? Pop a vitamin C or D? Even when it comes to tomatoes—Roma, Beefsteak, or Cherry—it’s all a matter of choice.

Whole, 1%, 2%, or a parade of plant-based alternatives—almond, sesame, cashew, hazelnut, walnut, oat, or even goat! We’re genuinely swimming in milk choices.

Our wardrobes are equally overwhelming. Are you feeling sporty or chic today? Daywear, nightwear, casual, or formal? And do those jeans come in slim or extra slim? It’s a sartorial jungle out there, with cuts from straight to regular to classic, creating puzzles and confusion.

The world is a market of choices. It’s all about picking and choosing from groceries to garments, furniture to luxury items.

Deepak Chopra reminds us, “No matter the situation, remind yourself, I have a choice.”

But here’s the kicker: this endless buffet of options isn’t on every table. Choices are often a luxury reserved for the privileged.

For those in poverty, options can be scarce—limited to what’s available or what’s affordable. Ask a refugee or a desperate migrant forced to move; they often have little say.

Choices, it turns out, can be the most exclusive item on the menu of life.
