“GOLGAPPE” IN COSTCO: AN AMBIENCE OF INDIA IN CANADA

As Costco started selling ‘Golgappe’ aka ‘Pani-puri,’ while samosas and dosas become the popular snack food in Canada, ghee retails in big grocery stores; Superstore, Save-on-Food and more have an exclusive aisle of Indian grocery items from Dals, Achaars to spices, and offering Diwali and Vaisakhi special sales; Walmart displays salwar-kameez in its women section, Canada Post releases a stamp in celebration of Diwali a couple of years ago; leaders and VIPs enjoy with reverence the langar food in Gurdwaras or Mandirs; Vaisakhi parades fill the streets of Vancouver and Surrey with the spicy and sweet piquancy of fried pakoras and jalebis; Bhangra moves excite prime minister Trudeau to jump on the floor and dance with the beats of the ‘dhool’; Hindi/Punjabi films screened in regular movie theatres; Punjabi and Hindi introduced in schools, and many more breakthroughs, milestones, and happenings we get the ambience of India in Canada wrapped in its multicultural society.

Regarding ‘Golgappe’ in Costco, I’m looking forward to being in the line for the sample tasting of this popular Indian street food.😅😃
